Proteket

A shop experience for teeth prosthesis.

Introduction

Proteket, who delivers dental appliances such as implants, crowns and bridges, is the first of its kind to digitalise its ordering service. In order to do that, they hired Eggs Design to completelly reinvent the logistics process and I worked on the team that designed and implemented a whole new website directed to the dentists.

The Challenge

The dental industry suffers with ancient working procedures and old-fashioned pen and paper to capture most product orders from dentists. Proteket approached Eggs to renew its internal and external system, avoiding loss of clients due to orders being delayed or simply lost.

To achieve higher efficiency, quality and predictability, Eggs convinced them to go fully digital and integrate all processes into a cloud-based system that would conduct all operations. A dramatical change that would affect both customers and eployees, but effectivelly bump up Proteket's capacity and put it years ahead of its competitors.

The Challenge

Alice is a set of tools that is used throughout all departments of the company, from sales to accounting. Each tool is seen as separate product that shares components and functionalities with others in the platform ecosystem. Designing solutions for the platform requires a holistic perspective of the functions and a special care with the design system.

With the sudden growth of Loadsmart, several products had to be scaled for larger operations while new and smarter solutions designed from scratch and added to the platform.

My Role

While working at Eggs Design as a Senior Designer, I was part of the team that presented a new ordering flow for dentists after weeks of brainstorming, visualizations and concept iterations.

My role consisted in creating the easiest form possible for ordering a wide range of products that required a high-level of customization. Once the UX was defined and approved, it was my responsibility to deliver the visuals following the design system and present a pixel-perfect interface that would be then reproduced one-to-one by the front-end developers working with us.

STEP 1 - PRODUCT SELECTION

A new order starts with the choice between 64 different products divided into 3 categories: Singles, Bridges and Combinations. When selecting a product, the user is prompted to pick the teeth in a frontal mapping. The selections are shown on a blueprint of the mouth on the top right with a color-coding, and the total price is immediatelly calculated underneath in a shopping cart.

STEP 2 – CUSTOMIZATION

For each selection made, the user proceeds to customize every detail of the product individually or leave it to a default recommended suggestion. The order can be changed anytime in the previous step and new selections are automatically updated in Step 2.

2 Customize

STEP 3 – CHECKOUT

In the last step, the user can add specifications, choose a delivery date and request for trials. By pressing 'Send', the order is instantly submitted to Proteket, who is able to start working on the order immediatelly.

ORDERS REVIEW

Thanks to the integration with the system in the production line, users are able to follow the status of their orders with updates done by the minute.

Takeaways

After changing its entire system, Proteket went from processing 90-100 orders per week to over 600. Technicians manufacture products more accurately and get them delivered faster, while dentists have 100% control over their order flow. The project was an instant success that rendered Eggs an Award for Design Excellency in 2016.

This is an example of how we used the learnings from one industry – in this case e-commerce – to innovate in another completelly different such as dental. It was also a great experience to work together with our client's developers to hand over the design assets and control over the system.
